What should I wear?

There is no particular dress code, but you should wear clothes in which you can move freely but still see what your body is doing. Yes, sadly, there will probably be spandex involved. Here are some suggestions:

Girls: The easiest thing would be to invest in a leotard, a pair of tights, and a pair of ballet shoes. Alternative clothing could include: yoga clothing, tight t-shirt/tank top, sports bra/running top, one-piece bathing suit, unitard, leggings, boxers, biker shorts, dance pants, jazz shoes, lyrical shoes, other types of soft-soled dance slippers (no heel).

Boys: Most guys don't want to wear tights when they first start, so instead you can wear dance pants, leggings, biker shorts, or some athletic shorts. You’ll want a shirt tight enough that it's easy to follow what your body is doing, such as a white undershirt. You may also want to invest in some briefs if you're a boxer wearer, or some sort of restraining sports garment -- you will be jumping around, so plan accordingly. Same shoe suggestions as the girls: ballet shoes, jazz shoes, other soft-soled dance shoes without heels (note that men’s dance shoes are generally available in colors other than pink).
